SUSU, the University of Southampton's Student Union commissioned us to build a sculptural mapping installation for their weekly club night. We constructed an easy-to-assemble 3D sculpture from aluminium and acrylic, with a distinctive industrial feel, complete with matching DJ riser detail, and mapped motion graphics. The system we designed caused the most prominent colour in the animation to be used as the LED colour to backlight the smaller triangle. Also, since the construction was mostly translucent, the illusion of the 3D graphics projected onto the 3D surface could be momentarily broken using a strobe light behind the main structure, revealing the true structure and the skeleton of aluminium triangles forming it.
